Bodrum has been a major frontier for people who seeks places to escape and settle down, in a relaxing and slow urban area, consisting of national and international tourists.
The beautiful landscape and slow urban life of Bodrum made here the focal point of these people. But this interest in the Bodrum Peninsula created a pattern of growth that consumes the natural and cultural attraction elements of Bodrum and leaving the place with emptied resources. In another words, a non sustainable growth pattern.
One way this consuming occurs is, shifting the land use in favor of mainly tourism, without considering the rights of human actors in the area, and without considering the natural and cultural asset loss and it’s long term effects. This issue can be seen in Bodrum Peninsula in both large and small scales.
(Increased: Settlements, Expensive Tourism Areas, Industrial Facilities / Decreased: Forests and Green Areas, Agriculture Areas, Democratic Public Places, Cultural Assets)
Another way , in order to compete with large, rich tourist facilities and each other, smaller tourist services who are run by locals, uses every land and resource they can, without considering the rights of the neighborhood.
(Increased: Temporary Local Income / Decreased: Neighborhood Public Areas, Neighborhood Aesthetic, Attractiveness of Area)
According to R. W. Carter (2004), three pillars of the sustainable tourism in sporadically growing areas are, preserve, community benefit and tourist attraction.
Preserve the quality and integrity of primary tourist assets.
Community must continue to receive benefits of their land and tourism.
The market, Tourists, must continue to be satisfied and attracted.

Phase
Bodrum has been losing agricultural and green areas to tourism land use since 1990's. The red/dark yellow colored areas are the lost green areas.
But the critical data here is %72.7 of the lost green areas are from the shore areas of Bodrum Peninsula, which are the most fertile soils.
During the inspections of this land use on our project area on Bitez/Gümbet districts, the 'Eco-Tourism' area specified in Environment Organization Plan showed a potential for a district wide improvement project
The users and their potential problems and solutions are mapped to propose design solutions systematically.

According to the systematic problem/potential identification, design strategies was generated for Bitez area on various levels.
"Eco-Tourism" concept was implemented to Bitez on 1:1000 scale.
allows for spontaneous experiences by redesigned, inviting road axis'.
Shared Bike Units and bike prioritized route networks shift the balance of transportation vehicles in favor of bicycles.

aims to:
- Reconnect producer and customer
- Distribute tourism flow through Bitez district
- Protect the natural assets of Bitez by easing pressure on the beach area
Singular sales units will provide producers a space to demonstrate their products to customers.
Redesign of Coastal Strip aims to sustain the valuable experience of Bitez beach by introducing a personal space / user limit. This redesign is based on the calculation of carrying capacity of Bitez beach, which uses the equations of a research from similar geography and climate of Praia de Faro, Portugal.

The proposed plant species are selected among the local species that will physically support the program of the area and that will minimize the cost.
Eco-Tourism Parks have eight distinct local Citrus species that specializes with the ripening time and physical attributes.
The bioswale plant species are from the water trapping species
